Yaoundé has made great progress in infrastructure especially road construction

After his election in 2011, the President of the Republic of Cameroon, Mr. Paul Biya announced that Cameroon would become a vast construction zone. Indeed, its action plan called for the implementation of major infrastructure projects, which he believed would transform Cameroon into an emerging nation by 2035.
The announcement at the time drew and continued to draw skepticism from the majority of Cameroonian citizens. Cameroonians are not strangers empty electoral promises. Nevertheless, signs do point to sprouts here and there, which may lend some credibility to Paul Biya’s promises. Such is the case of Kribi deep-water seaport. The first phase of this gigantic project is almost complete, and first boats are expected the coming months. The same is true of the Memve’ele and Lom Pangar dams, both of which are in a very advanced state. Work on the Douala-Yaoundé motorway is said to have started, although visible signs of these works are absent both in Douala and Yaoundé. The excavation work has reportedly begun in the hinterland, along the official track of this highway. When completed, the motor will significantly boost the economy of Cameroon.

Another such major infrastructure project is the construction of the Yaoundé-Nsimalen Highway. If we believe the authorities and the video concept, the highway will transform the capital city into the modern city that has always been in the dreams of the people of Yaoundé and Cameroon. According to the video concept, which we have obtained from the Ministry of Economy and Planning (MINEPAT), the Nsimalen highway project is divided into three lots. Once completed, this highway, will come with many overpass bridges, interchanges, and numerous traffic circles, will give the people of Yaoundé a glimpse of a true modern city. We invite you to watch the video concept we have embedded with this article. We sincerely hope that this project comes with a rigorously implemented urban development plan. If this is not the case, the highway would just join the long list of projects full of promise that never moved the needle.
